My experience teaching and caring for small children, prior to starting
my own family, consisted of babysitting, nanny work, volunteering
at a local nursery school and co-teaching lower school music and
drama classes. The greatest bulk of my experience comes from the
intensive crash course in parenting I’ve taken in my own home
over the past six years (taught by Profs. Samuel, age 5, Theadora
Joy, age 4, and Bartholomew John, 14 months). I feel I deserve a
Ph.D. by now!
In my life B.P. (Before Parenthood) I was a student at Columbia
University, focusing on Sanskrit. It’s astonishing how quickly
things change with parenthood, isn’t it? I plan on continuing
my education (while I work at Hummingbird School) but this time
to pursue a career in art education. I may also continue my studies
in ASL, begun when my children were babies. I enjoy volunteering
at my son’s classroom at Trillium Charter School and I've mentored a 3-4-5 grade knitting club. I am certified
in Infant and Child First Aid/CPR and have an Oregon state food
handler’s license.
Working at Hummingbird School has been such a boon in my life -
every day I spend with these amazing children has been full of laughter
and play and true caring. This school is such a unique and amazing
environment.
